Welcome to the Starcastle kingdom,
where all your dreams come true!
Before I ever touched CSS or learned how to bully a div into place, there
was Starcastle! My favorite toy in the entire universe. Trendmasters
released them in 1994 or 1995, but to me they (and Polly Pockets for that
matter) were less plastic playsets and more like portable pocket
dimensions. Each castle opened with a tiny key, revealing a whole inner
world: cozy rooms, shiny accessories, tiny thrones, secret compartments
and trapdoors. It was modular, magical, and unapologetically maximalist.
Which is basically my personality now.
Trendsetters also released Sky Dancers after Starcastles. And listen. I
adored them. I feared them. I survived them. Those things were beautiful,
tumultuous pastel danger fairies, and I loved them with INTENSITY. So yes,
they're part of the inspo too.
First and foremost, I'm so glad this was first game I ever played on PS. I
want my site to look like it basically hatched out of one of those dragon
eggs. I love the OG Spyro and Reignited, I can't really choose one over
the other. I love the bright worlds, cozy chaos, and the sense that every
corner might hide a gem. The lessons I took home were:
1.
Magic and fantasy can be silly and sincere at the same time.
2. EXPLORE!!!!!!!!
3. you can be low-poly and still whimsical!
4. It smells like
flambeed sheep in here
